Greedy? Uncouth? Rude? Wario! Wario Land: Shake It! Data Report

October 13, 2012

Coffee Beans
Why did Nintendo stop publishing and shipping Wario Land: Shake It! as I reported in January 2010, and why isn’t the game a Wii Nintendo Selects title yet? Is it because Nintendo thinks the “W” is misprinted upside-down in the title? If the game was, “Mario Land: Shake It!“, would it be a Nintendo Selects title already?

Wario Land: Shake It! was released for the Wii on September 22, 2008 in the U.S., and was developed by GOOD-FEEL and published by Nintendo. The game released with a MSRP of $49.99, and it received an ESRB rating of “Everyone” with “Comic Mischief, Mild Cartoon Violence” listed as content for gamers and parents to be aware of.

How many U.S. Wii owners have reported playing Wario Land: Shake It!, and how many hours have they reported playing it? Brew yourself some coffee, and let’s take a look!

The Brew
Wario Land: Shake It! has approximately 180,674 U.S. Wii owners that reported gameplay data for the game, with over 4 years of data possibly reported. Players have reported 1,980,903 Total Hours of gameplay since the game released, with the total average play-time being 10 Hours 58 Minutes “Per person” and the average play-time per day/session being about 1 Hour 35 Minutes.

Was Wario’s return to console platforming, after more than a half-decade absence, received well by critics and customers? The game has a “professional” critic review score average of 77.70%, based on 43 reviews on GameRankings.com. The customer review score average for Wario Land: Shake It! is 81.87%, based on 64 reviews from Amazon.com.

Caffeinated Thoughts
I played Wario Land: Shake It! very briefly on a Game Stop store demo, but I didn’t spend very much time on the demo before moving on. If you have never seen what type of gameplay you can expect from Wario Land: Shake It!, the trailer below should give you a good idea of what you can expect from the game.

I think based on the average hours reported “Per person” that Wario Land: Shake It! would be a good choice for a Nintendo Selects title, but being that it hasn’t happened yet, and with the Wii U releasing in just over a month, I don’t think Nintendo is going to do much with the Wii anymore.

Perhaps we can hope that Nintendo will add Wii titles to the Wii U’s eShop? I hope so, and not just for Wario Land: Shake It!, but also for Wii games like Pandora’s Tower that never released for North American Wii owners.

(If you’re looking for the Wii U giveaway contest, you can find the details HERE.)

Questions
Did any of you play (and beat) Wario Land: Shake It!, and if so, how many hours did you get out of it? Is it a one-time play-through  and then not much to go back and play again, as the reported average here might suggest?

If you have played Wario Land: Shake It!, do you think it would be a good choice for a Nintendo Selects title, and/or a possible Wii U eShop game in the future?

Nintendo Lacks Love for Wario!

January 13, 2010

Earlier today, I reported that Nintendo is no longer producing or shipping Mario Strikers Charged, Battalion Wars 2, or Wario Land: Shake It!.

GoNintendo.com was one site that reported on my story.  A GoNintendo reader, 8 bit, stated in the comments section on the story, “…I thought WarioWare was the one being discontinued, since it’s older. Is that one still in production?

It made me curious, so I asked if WarioWare: Smooth Moves was still being shipped, and my source at Nintendo replied, “That one is no longer being shipped.

The Wii has had two Wario games published for it, WarioWare: Smooth Moves in January 2007 and Wario Land: Shake It! in September 2008, yet neither Wario game is being shipped now!  Why?  Does Nintendo think new Wii owners would not enjoy these games?

While my sources couldn’t give specific reasons as to why the Wario Wii games aren’t being produced and shipped anymore, I wonder if Nintendo will be soon announcing a Player’s Choice lineup of Wii games, and perhaps these Wario titles will be in the lineup?
If you’re looking to purchase either of these titles, you can check 2nd/3rd party vendors on Amazon.com, as shown below, as well as other sites.  Be careful though, as some of the prices are outrageous now!

Questions:
What do you think?  Will Nintendo introduce a new line of $20 Wii games as Player’s Choice games, like they did on the GameCube, or are these games just being put out to pasture?
Do you own either WarioWare: Smooth Moves or Wario Land: Shake It!?  If so, what do you think about the games?  If not, do you plan on trying to purchase them now?

Just last Friday, I posted up that Nintendo of America confirmed, via email, that Metroid Prime Trilogy Collector’s Edition is no longer being shipped or produced in North America.

Being that Metroid Prime: Trilogy Collector’s Edition is no longer being published/shipped, I asked Nintendo if they were planning on releasing any New Play Control! Metroid Prime games to replace the Collector’s Edition.

The response from Nintendo to that question was, “At this time, a New Play Control version of the Metroid Prime games has not been announced for release here in North America.  More importantly, we do not have any information that tells us this game will or won’t be announced…

MORE GAMES CANCELED!
Just today, I was able to confirm from Nintendo, via email, that Nintendo is no longer producing or shipping Battalion Wars 2, Mario Strikers Charged, or Wario Land: Shake It!.

The email I received back from Nintendo after inquiring about those games said, ” Mario Strikers Charged (2007), Battalion Wars 2 (2007), and Wario Land: Shake It(2008) are no longer being manufactured or shipped to retailers.”  Again, I emailed Nintendo of America, so this may be different for other Nintendo regions.

If you’re interested in any of these games, make sure to grab them while you can, as they are available from either Amazon.com directly or other vendors on Amazon.com at discounted prices!

Do you own any of these games?  If so, leave a comment and let some others know what you think about them, and if you think any of them are worth buying, before they become harder to find.
Why do you think Nintendo has canceled these games?
