Baking a Wedding Cake with the Force, and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II’s Hours Report

November 9, 2011
I’m on the left.

Coffee Beans
How do Sith bake a wedding cake?  Force lighting of course!  The image above was taken at a friend’s wedding I attended back in August.  He claims to have hated/not liked Star Wars until he met me in college, but I think he’s just trying to find someone to blame.  He had a Star Wars themed cake that you can see in the image above, and he even convinced his bride(now wife) to use Star Wars music in part of the wedding.
Is the Force lightning in the photo real?  It doesn’t really matter, because it is Death Star approved!

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II was released last year on October 26th with a MSRP of $49.99.  The game was developed by Red Fly Studio and published by LucasArts.
It received a “Teen” rating from the ESRB with “Mild Blood, Violence” listed as content for parents/gamers to be aware of.

How many hours have Wii owners reported unleashing the Force, in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II over the last year?  Let’s take a look!

The Brew
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II now has 40,029 Wii owners that have reported game-play data through the Wii’s Nintendo Channel, with 377 days possibly reported.
The game’s average play-time per day/session reported is now 1 Hour 59 Minutes.
The Force Unleashed II has a “professional” review score average of 69.17%, based on 6 reviews on GameRankings.com.  The game has a 3.5 out of 5 Stars rating on Amazon.com, based on 48 customer reviews.

Caffeinated Thoughts
While I have not played Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, it is on my list of games that I would like to play when I finish my video game backlog.
As I mentioned in the “Coffee Beans” section, the Wii version released with a MSRP of $49.99, but it can be found for under $20 on all the systems, as its MSRP is now just $19.99.
Seeing the Wii version has more than 12 hours of game-play averaged “Per person”, makes me think The Force Unleashed II is easily worth the lower price, especially considering the Wii version has a local multi-player mode.
If you do not know the story setting for the game, but are interested in it, the trailer below contains at least one story-line spoiler and tries to show you the setting you will be playing through:

Questions
Have any of you played through Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II this year on any of the consoles?  If so, which version did you play, and did you enjoy your time with the game?
Based on the version you have played of the game, would you say it’s more of a buy, or a rental?

>May the 4th Be With You! Hours From A Galaxy Far, Far Away…

May 5, 2011

>

 Coffee Beans:
May the 4th be with you!  If you don’t/didn’t know, today(or yesterday technically) was May 4th, and it has basically become the “official” Star Wars day.
Last year I showed the reported game-play data for some Wii Star Wars games, and there were 23,484,173 Total Hours reported from the Star Wars video game galaxy, on May 4, 2010.  You can read last year’s report, HERE!

How many hours have been spent in the galaxy far, far away…in the last 365 days reported?  Let’s take a look!

Data reported is for United States of America Wii owners, not world-wide.

Approx. Number of Players Having Reported Data:
LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga now has 597,649 Wii owners that have reported play-time data through the Wii’s Nintendo Channel.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed now has 417,291 Wii owners that have reported their data.
Star Wars The Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels now has 209,542 Wii owners having reported data.
Star Wars the Clone Wars: Republic Heroes has 61,216 players having reported data since it released in October 2009.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II has 23,419 players that have reported data since it released in October 2010.
LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars now has 5,074 players having reported data through the Nintendo Channel.

Total Number of Players Having Reported Data, and Increased in the Last Year:
All the Wii Star Wars games combined have 1,314,191 players that have reported data through the Wii’s Nintendo Channel, so far.
Just in the last 365 days reported though, with two new games being added and more players reporting data on the other titles, there are about 486,317 more players reflected in this year’s data, than last year’s.

Total Hours Reported, and Increased Since Last Year:
All the Wii Star Wars games with reported game-play hours have an incredible 41,939,242 Total Hours reported through the Nintendo Channel.
With two additional Star Wars games released on the Wii in the last year, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II and LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars, as well as the continued play-times increasing for the other games, the number of hours spent in the Star Wars galaxy just in the last 365 days reported is 18,455,069 Total Hours.
The increase in Total Hours in just the last year, would be enough to make about 121,708 round trips to the moon.

Filtered Thoughts:
I left out the review score averages and the Amazon.com sales ranks…but I’ll probably add them tomorrow(after my finals!).
While I have only played Star Wars: The Force Unleashed from the games reported on above, I would recommend it to Wii owners looking for a fun Star Wars game, with some decent motion controls and nice Force powers.
As for the others, I may add a few of them to my collection at some point, as I’m really interested in grabbing LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga now that it’s under $20, and the same goes for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II.
If you aren’t familiar with any of these titles, the video below is a Star Wars trailer compilation, showing off several of the games above…as well as two Star Wars games from a console in the 90s!

Questions:
Did any of you tell somebody, “May the fourth be with you!”?  If you have played any of the Star Wars games reported on, are there any you would/wouldn’t recommend?
Also, did the last two trailers shown cause anybody to have a flashback to the 90s?!

Thoughts:

501st Stormtroopers that didn’t want to have a cup of coffee with me!

I’m a huge Star Wars fan, but I have not played Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II.  I really enjoyed the original Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, but after hearing how short SW:TFU2 is, I decided to hold off on purchasing it for now.
I think considering the lower review scores, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II has performed pretty well.  The reported average hours “Per person” are higher than I expected them to be, and I don’t know if perhaps the Wii version’s local multi-player mode is helping that average.

As for the picture above, I’m in the Jedi robe, and the story behind it is this(as I posted on NinTemple.com):
My wife and I went out this year with our son.

Saturday night, we dressed our son up in his dragon costume, but before leaving I snuck my old Jedi robe into my backpack, and strangely enough…it came to excellent use.

We went to one of our malls, for a trick-or-treat event Saturday night with some other friends. We had gone into a store, and as we were leaving in our normal clothes…I saw two guys walk by in Stormtrooper armor. They didn’t see us, so I called out, “Are y’all part of the 501st?”
The guy replied, “Yea. How did you know?”

I’m a huge Star Wars nerd, and know about the fans and the 501st Legion; so anywho, we chatted for a bit, and I ended up getting a picture with them while I was wearing the Jedi robe.”

Questions:
Have any of you played and beaten Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II; and if so, how many hours did it take you to complete?  If you played the original, how do you think Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II compares to it?
