What is the most played Just Dance Wii game?

October 22, 2012

The Roast
The first Just Dance game released on November 17, 2009 for the Nintendo Wii. The game did not receive a typical professional review score average that would make you think it would become one of the best selling Wii games, but apparently many consumers ignored the “professional reviews” and bought the original Just Dance in droves. It has sold millions of copies and its success helped form a new major franchise for Ubisoft, with at least one new game for the series each year, since the original released.

In January this year, Ubisoft announced that since the series launched, it had sold more than 25 million copies. The Wii has had at least 8 games from the Just Dance series, from my count:

Another Just Dance title is releasing this Tuesday, Just Dance: Disney Party.

Which Just Dance game has become the Wii’s most played “Per person” and also has the most total hours of gameplay reported, with so many titles for Wii owners to choose from? (Hint: It’s not Just Dance 4.) Brew yourself some coffee, and let’s take a look!

Will you be dancing with Just Dance 4 on the Wii U?

Coffee Beans
Just Dance 2 is the Wii’s most played game from the Just Dance series, according to the average hours reported “Per person” and also the total hours reported on the Nintendo Channel for all of the Just Dance games.

Just Dance 2 was released on October 12, 2010 with a MSRP of $39.99. The game was developed by Ubisoft Paris, and received an ESRB rating of “Everyone 10+” with “Lyrics, Mild Suggestive Themes” listed as content for gamers and parents to be aware of.

The data shown in the image below is for the gameplay hours reported from U.S. Wii owners, with 734 days possibly reported.

Information reported from U.S. Wii owners.

The Brew
Just Dance 2 now has approximately 453,768 U.S. Wii owners that have reported playing the game through the Nintendo Channel, which is about 160,000 more Wii owners that have reported data for the game since last year’s report.

Just Dance 2’s reported average play-time is 12 Hours 55 Minutes “Per person”, with the average time played per day/session being about 1 Hour 7 Minutes. This means each time reported dancing session is lasting just over an hour. The game’s reported average is 12 Hours 55 Minutes “Per person” as the image above shows.

How has the game been received by critics and customers? The game has a “professional” critic review score average of 77.25%, based on 16 reviews on GameRankings.com. Just Dance 2 has a customer review score average of 90.22%, based on 1,097 reviews from Amazon.com.

Caffeinated Thoughts
While I still have not played any of the Just Dance games, I have found it interesting to see the series continue to be so successful, and I enjoy seeing how Ubisoft has marketed the series and expanded it to the other consoles as well. Seeing Just Dance 2 being the most played game of the series on the Wii though, I do find interesting because it wasn’t the first game in the series on the Wii.

The 5,863,176 Total Hours reported for the game are equivalent to dancing for about 244,299 days, straight. That would be dancing 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for just over 669 years. I think that would make for the longest “Just Sweat It Out” session!

Just Dance 4 was just released on October 9th for the PlayStation 3, Wii, and Xbox 360. The Wii U is not yet out (less than a month now!), but Just Dance 4 is scheduled to release 5 days before the system, on November 13th. The trailer below is for Just Dance 4, and promotes how the Wii U GamePad’s streaming function will work.

Just Dance 4 on the Wii U currently has a MSRP of $49.99, which is $10 higher than the PlayStation 3, Wii, and Xbox 360 versions of the game. The game is releasing with three exclusive tracks for the Wii U version, as well as the Wii U exclusive Master of Ceremony and Puppet Master modes, and the ability to play Just Dance 4 off of just the Wii U GamePad.

I just wonder if the $10 price difference is going to be adjusted before launch, and make a big difference for fans of the series; or if it will make for the first Just Dance title to release at $49.99, and perhaps future Just Dance games will continue to release at that price as well?

Questions
Have any of you played Just Dance 2, and helped it become the Wii’s most played Just Dance game in at least the U.S., passing the original? Have any of you played all of the Just Dance Wii games by any chance, and if so, do you have a favorite game from the series?

If you’re a fan of the Just Dance series and planning on buying a Wii U, do the extra Wii U modes in Just Dance 4 and the option to play off of just the Wii U GamePad make you likely to buy the game?

How Many Hours Danced? Just Dance 2’s One Year Report

October 19, 2011

Coffee Beans
Just Dance 2 was released on October 12, 2010 with a MSRP of $39.99.  The game was a sequel to the original Wii hit Just Dance, which released in 2009.
The game was developed by Ubisoft Paris, and published by Ubisoft, and it received an “Everyone 10+” rating from the ESRB with “Lyrics, Mild Suggestive Themes” listed as content for gamers/parents to be aware of.

How many hours have Wii owners reported dancing with Just Dance 2, with 370 days possibly reported?  Let’s take a look!

Have you played all three Just Dance games?

The Brew
Just Dance 2 now has about 293,825 Wii owners that have reported game-play data through the Nintendo Channel, compared to 10,067 Wii owners when the game-play data debuted for it on November 22, 2010.
The game’s average play-time per dance session/day reported is now 1 Hour 11 Minutes.
Just Dance 2 can currently be purchased new from Amazon.com for $34.99 with free shipping, and from GameStop.com for $39.99.
Just Dance 2 has seen an increase of more than 900 customer reviews on Amazon.com since last November, and now has 997 customer reviews.

Filtered Thoughts
I have yet to play a Just Dance game, but I am still impressed by the community of gamers the series has created; and I’m interested to see how Just Dance 3, which was just released, performs overall compared to Just Dance and Just Dance 2.
Below is a trailer from Just Dance 2, which was released as part of the game’s advertisement campaign in Europe:

Seeing Just Dance 2 with more than 3 million “Total Hours” reported in a year, I think is really incredible for a third party Wii game, and especially one that does not have any sort of online multiplayer aspect.
Just Dance 2 took 42 days to debut, and I am watching to see if Just Dance 3 will beat it; or if perhaps with Just Dance 3 being the first multi-console release for the series, if the reported Wii data might take a little longer to debut.

Questions
Have any of you played Just Dance 2, and if so, was it the first game you played in the series?  Also, about how many hours have you played Just Dance 2 if you own it?
As I asked in the image caption above, have any of you played all three Just Dance games?

5 Million Plus Copies Sold, How Many Hours Danced? Just Dance 2 Report

August 21, 2011

Coffee Beans

Just Dance 2 received an “Everyone 10+” rating from the ESRB with “Lyrics, Mild Suggestive Themes” listed as content for gamers/parents to be aware of.
Nintendo announced just last week, on August 11, that Just Dance 2 had crossed “the 5 million sales mark”, joining seven other Wii titles in the United States with more than 5 million units sold.

How many hours have Wii owners in the United States spent dancing their nights away with Just Dance 2?  Let’s take a look!

For a point of reference, the “Total Hours” reported for Just Dance 2
are more than Metroid: Other M’s and more than Kirby’s Epic Yarn’s
“Total Hours”, both of which released around the same time last year.

Approx. Number of Players Having Reported Data
Just Dance 2 has had about 261,918 Wii owners report their play-time data through the Nintendo Channel, since the game released on October 12, 2010.

Number of Players Reporting Data, Increased
The last report on Just Dance 2 was from game-play data recorded on November 22, 2010.  At that time, Just Dance 2 had game-play hours debut on the Nintendo Channel from approximately 10,067 Wii owners reporting data.
Just Dance 2 has seen an increase of 251,851 Wii owners reporting data through the Nintendo Channel. This means about 5% of Just Dance 2 owners in the United States use the Nintendo Channel to report their play-time data.

Average & Total Game-Play Hours
Just Dance 2 now has 2,712,953 Total Hours of game-play reported, which is an increase of 2,653,436 Total Hours since its debut data from November 22, 2010.

Filtered Thoughts
Ubisoft just released Just Dance Summer Party on July 19, and Just Dance 3 will be releasing later this year on October 11, helping keep the Just Dance games series alive.
I can see how the series has become successful with the marketing behind it, and the audience it has attracted.  I’m not sure though, if the Just Dance series will become like the Tony Hawk or the Guitar Hero series where sales drastically vanish from one year to the next, but as Just Dance and Just Dance 2 have proven successful, I think Ubisoft will continue to support and market the series well in the future.
The fact that Just Dance 2 has sold more than 5 million copies in less than a year I think is an incredible feat for a game, and one any developer would hope to accomplish.  Though I haven’t played any of the Just Dance games yet, one game from the series might become part of our Wii collection in the near future.

Questions
Have any of you played the games in the Just Dance series, and if so, what games in the series have you played?
If you have not played any of the Just Dance games, is it a series you are interested in?

Gamers Like to Dance? Just Dance 2’s Game-Play Hours Debut

November 24, 2010

Coffee Beans:
Just Dance 2 was released on October 12, 2010, in North America; with a MSRP of $39.99.  It was developed by Ubisoft Paris, the same team behind Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 and Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party, as well the original Just Dance.

It took 42 days for Just Dance 2’s play-time data to appear on the Nintendo Channel, as shown below.
Does the reported game-play data for Just Dance 2, so far, show Wii owners perhaps can go “Dancing with the Stars”, or do they need more practice with their dance moves?  Let’s take a look!

The debut game-play hours shown above are for the United States of America Wii owners, not world-wide.

Approx. Number of Players Reporting Data:
Just Dance 2 has 10,067 Wii owners reporting their play-time data, on its debut on the Nintendo Channel 42 days after its release.

Average Hours & Total Game-Play Hours Reported:
Just Dance 2 has 59,517 Total Hours of game-play reported on its debut, with an average play-time of 5 Hours 54 Minutes “Per person” reporting data.
The debut average play-time per dance session, for Just Dance 2, is just over 1 Hour 26 Minutes.

For comparison, the original Just Dance has 1,135,065 Total Hours of game-play reported, since it released on November 17, 2009.  The original’s average play-time is 9 Hours 11 Minutes “Per person”, and the average play-time per dance session is just over 1 Hour 8 Minutes.

Sale Rank & Advertised Price:
Just Dance 2’s Amazon.com sale rank is #3, and is selling for $38.49. (recorded around 2:20AM on 11-24-10)

Review Score Averages:
Just Dance 2’s review score average is 77.57%, based on 14 “professional” reviews on GameRankings.com. (recorded around 2:20AM on 11-24-10)

Amazon.com shows Just Dance 2 with a 4.5 out of 5 Star rating, basically a 90% average, based on 93 customer reviews.
You can see the customer review score breakdown in the picture below:

Thoughts:
Just Dance 2 is apparently following in its predecessor’s footsteps of sales, because it was #7 in the NPD’s “Top Ten” video games sold in the month of October.
If you’re wondering just how popular Just Dance 2 is, I think the picture below says a lot:

Image captured around 2:20AM on 11-24-10

Your eyes aren’t fooling you(unless you drank decaf coffee today!).  Just Dance 2 had a higher sales rank on Amazon.com than Donkey Kong Country Returns, just 3 days after Donkey Kong Country Returns’ release.
While the original Just Dance now has approximately 123,392 Wii owners that have reported their play-time data, the debut number of 10,067 Wii owners reporting data for Just Dance 2 is extremely encouraging when compared to other games’ debut.
So, even though the average play-time “Per person” is 5 Hours 54 Minutes, 6 weeks after Just Dance 2’s release; I would think out of the 10,067 Wii owners reporting data, a few of those would be more than talented enough to go “Dancing with the Stars”.
Seeing how well this game is performing already, I’m kind of tempted to find it and give it a try.

Questions:
Have any of you played Just Dance 2, and if so, what do you think of the game?  Is it a “dance” game you would recommend to other Wii owners, as a good social game?
If you haven’t played Just Dance 2, could you see yourself ever playing this type of game?
