Monster Hunter 3’s Ironbeard McCullough

April 15, 2010
Monster Hunter 3’s Ironbeard McCullough shares his experience making the first commercial for Monster Hunter 3.
Monster Hunter 3 is releasing on the Nintendo Wii this coming Tuesday, April 20!
Capcom has already started advertising the game, with a commercial starring Ironbeard McCullough.
I have read the commercial was spotted during a commercial break for the Oprah program, so I think Capcom is attempting to advertise this game to a wider Wii audience.
If you haven’t seen the Monster Hunter 3 television commercial, I’m including it here:
After I watched the Monster Hunter 3 commercial, I sent a message over to Capcom and just let them know I thought the commercial was good, and I also shared a commercial idea I had for the game, not even knowing if I was sending the message to the right place.
Well, I checked my inbox the next day and I had received a reply, again from Ironbeard McCullough.
This was Ironbeard’s reply:
“Ahoy Scott,
Thankee kindly fer yer comments.  And I like yer idea, though I’m not sure I can handle another commercial fer a wee bit(fer that spot, they gave me this “blush” t’ bring out me “cheek bones”.  Itches like a kelbi fur hat!).  So they’ll have t’ stick with me and the Lagi right now.
But who knows what the future’ll hold?!  I guess we’ll see!
And hunt.
Always hunt!  Ahahaha!
Take care, and be sure t’ say ahoy from time t’ time.
Yer mate,
Ironbeard McCullough”
My Thoughts:
I think it is great that Capcom is already advertising Monster Hunter 3, and I think it is very smart to advertise the game on programs like Oprah.  I’m not sure how long Capcom plans on advertising the game, and I really hope they do another commercial perhaps after the game is released, announcing the “opening” of hunting season within the game.
Ironbeard himself wasn’t sure about another commercial, but if he is in another one, perhaps they can let him do it without the blush!
Questions:
Have you seen the Monster Hunter 3 commercial on television?  If so, what station/program was it advertised during?
If you didn’t know anything about Monster Hunter 3, and you saw the commercial, would it pique your interest in the game?
My wife and I don’t have cable tv(or even an antenna hooked up), so I first saw the commercial on YouTube.
I think the commercial may have piqued my interest, because of the use of the crab fishing at the beginning.  I enjoyed the television show, Deadliest Catch, when we had cable, so the commercial would have probably captured my attention with that footage.
I wonder what Oprah viewers think of the commercial if they have no idea what the game is about?
Thanks again to Ironbeard McCullough for his response!

Monster Hunter 3’s Ironbeard McCullough: Questions Answered Part 2

March 26, 2010
Monster Hunter 3’s Ironbeard McCullough
Almost two weeks ago, I asked some questions regarding Monster Hunter 3’s Ironbeard McCullough, and was really surprised when he responded.
Last Saturday, March 20, 2010, I posted up the first set of Questions/Anwers.
I ended that post by asking, “If you could ask Monster Hunter Ironbeard McCullough a question, what would you ask him?”
Chuckpebble commented and said in part of his comment, “Ask him what his favorite blend of coffee is.”
Well, I wrote up some questions, and sent them over again, not sure if I would get a second response or not.
Ironbeard McCullough replied again!
Here are two more Questions/Answers:
CwG Question:  “A reader of my blog is wondering if you drink coffee, and what your preferred type of coffee drink is?”
Ironbeard’s reply:  “Coffee?  Normally I only drink that on early mornin’s when I need t’ wake up t’ hunt beasties that only come out right before dawn.  During those times, though, I drink yer so-called “robusta” “espresso”.  Really wakes ya up and puts hair on yer chest(and elsewhere).  And I dunna drink it in those mincy wee cups they usually serve it in.  I down the stuff straight out of me grog strein.”
CwG Question:  “Will we see you in actual television commercials for the game?”
Ironbeard replied:  “Dunna if the powdered wigs at Capcom would let me say any specifics, but…lemme just say, dunna stop watchin’ yer tele.”
Thoughts:
I would say television commercials are 100% confirmed for Monster Hunter 3, and it sounds like Ironbeard will be in them.  I think Capcom is doing a really good job, making the YouTube videos interesting and funny. I wonder what approach they’ll take for the television ads, or if they’ll be the same clips as the YouTube videos, just shortened up.
Also, since Tuesday of this week, I’ve been noticing Monster Hunter 3 advertisements on a lot of the gaming websites I visit.  Here’s one I grabbed a screenshot of:

On the coffee question, Ironbeard is a more hardcore coffee drinker than myself, since he’s drinking espresso straight from his, “grog strein”.
Questions:
Have you noticed any of the Monster Hunter 3 online advertisements yet?
Have you seen the newest Monster Hunter 3 video with Ironbeard McCullough in it?
If not, I’m including it here:
What do you think about it?

Monster Hunter 3’s Ironbeard McCullough: Questions Answered

March 20, 2010
Monster Hunter 3’s Ironbeard McCullough
Have you ever wondered how a monster hunter travels?
Or perhaps you’ve seen a monster hunter carrying a weapon and thought, “I wonder what weapon he’s carrying?”
The guy in the picture above, that’s Ironbeard McCullough.  He’s a monster hunter, and he’s helping promote the game Monster Hunter 3.  You can check him out in videos on the Monster Hunter YouTube Channel.
I was curious as to Ironbeard’s means of travel and his weapon in some of the videos, so I decided I would try and contact him.
Well, I was really surprised when I received an answer back!
I asked two questions:
“…I’m wondering what year/make your transportation is.”
and
“Also, what is the large weapon you have with you?  Is that a Switch Axe?”
Monster Hunter Ironbeard McCullough replied, “T’ answer yer questions, I drive around in a 1971 Ford F-150. ‘Twas the best I could afford, as most people in the States dunna accept zeni as payment.

And me weapon is a Great Sword which was forged from pieces of the Lagiacrus I hunted down.”
He signed off thanking me for my “note”, and said, “…I hope t’ meet ya on the huntin’ grounds one day!
Here’s hoping I can meet up with Ironbeard in Monster Hunter 3 as well!
A few weeks ago, I posted up a video and my impressions from playing the Monster Hunter 3 demo from Game Stop.  If you missed them,  you can click HERE to read them, and the link will be at the very bottom of this article as well.
