Question:
Have you played either of these games on the Wii, or perhaps their past iterations in the arcade or on the Sega Dreamcast?  If so, would you recommend them to Wii owners that haven’t purchased them yet?

I haven’t played the Wii versions of either of these games, but I did play The House of the Dead 2 on the Dreamcast.

If you’re interested in either of these games, you can see new and used prices for them on Amazon.com below:

I own both and I definitely recommend them to anyone that like arcade rail shooters. This is the real addictive deal, not the story driven affair of Extraction.House of the Dead 2 is still one of the best and is not only a straight port, it also has challenges and a story mode (which is the same as arcade mode) where you get to choose one power up, like more bullets before having to reload. It was my first time trying out House of the Dead 3 and I was quite disappointed. It's simply not as fun as 2. Overall, House of the Dead 2 alone makes it worth the price.I think Ghost Squad is on par with House of the Dead 2. The game is incredibly short with only three levels, but as you complete them, they level up. That's when you start getting branching paths which make the levels last longer. The only problem is the second level where you have only one chance to make a head shot. When I had level 1 and three up to level 10, level 2 was still at level 4, so that's a bit frustrating. When you complete all three levels, your points will give you upgrades, which usually alternate between a new suit or a new weapon. The new weapons can be fun, unfortunately, you already start with the best one in the game.I wish SEGA had made compilations of their other shooters. Overkill was fun, but lacked a bit in replayability. Also, I wanted Time Crisis Namco!Jonath

@Jonath:Thanks for the comment!I had heard about the branching paths in Ghost Squad, but didn't realize how the levels ranked up.I guess, looking at the hours, though fewer people are reporting data on Ghost Squad, those people are playing the game longer than the House of the Dead 2 & 3 players. Also, I remember playing Time Crisis in the arcade, and I don't know why Namco hasn't brought any of those games to the Wii!Thanks again for the comment!

Time Crisis 4 came out on PS3 I think in the first year and earlier games were ported to PS2 so I'm guessing that has something to do with it.As for Ghost Squad vs. HotD, Ghost Squad is definitely more replayable even though it's shorter.Jonath
